Harvey and Mike. Mike and Harvey. Have you ever wanted to know if they’re good lawyers? Today we’re going to find out. Stay until the end for my Legal Accuracy Grade.

SUITS has been highly requested; probably the most requested show on this channel. I think I missed Suits the first time around because I had already graduated from law school when it came out. But I’m glad I got a chance to watch this. This week i’m deconstructing the first episode of Suits.

★ A Few of My Favorite Things★
(clicking the links really helps out the channel)

Custom Suits: legaleagle.link/indochino
Ties: fave.co/2ImLY9I
Tie Clips/Bars: amzn.to/2WIQ6EE
Pocket Squares: amzn.to/2UfsKtL

▶ Why Indochino Suits? (50% off Premium Suits + free shipping) [ legaleagle.link/indochino ]: Off-the-rack suits NEVER fit right. Indochino makes fully custom suits that fit perfectly using any material I want, with all of the options I want. And they cost 1/3rd of what normal suits costs. I’ve purchased them with my own money for years, so I’m thrilled they are now a sponsor.

▶ Why Ties from TheTieBar? (Free shipping on orders over $50) [ fave.co/2ImLY9I ]: Normal ties are too fat. Skinny ties are too skinny. So these days I only wear ties that are exactly 2.5” wide. They are fashionable without being hipster. You see them in all of my videos. TieBar ties are perfect, come in every color I want, and never cost more than $19.

▶ Why these Tie Clips? [ amzn.to/2WIQ6EE ]: It’s really hard to find affordable tie clips that are the right size (1.5”), look good, and are great quality. These tie bars are all three. Plus the 3-pack gives a variety of styles. They pair perfectly with 2.5” ties from TheTieBar (above).

▶ Why these Pocket Squares? [ amzn.to/2UfsKtL ]: I like my pocket squares perfectly, well, square. Like straight-out-of-Mad-Men square. The only way to do that is with a stiffer material that keeps its shape. I’ve exhaustively tried dozens of pocket squares, and these are by far the best. It’s how I get the perfectly flat pocket square you see in my videos.

I get asked a lot about whether being a practicing attorney is like being a lawyer on TV. I love watching legal movies and courtroom dramas. It's one of the reasons I decided to become a lawyer. But sometimes they make me want to pull my hair out because they are ridiculous.

Today I'm taking a break from teaching law students how to kick ass in law school to take on lawyers in the movies and on TV. While all legal movies and shows take dramatic license to make things more interesting (nobody wants to see hundreds of hours of brief writing), many of them have a grain of truth.

This is part of a continuing series of "Lawyer Reaction" videos. Got a legal movie or TV show you'd like me to critique? Let me know in the comments!

Props to Dr. Mike's Real Doctor Reacts ( goo.gl/qF6Hza ) and Wired's Technique Critique ( goo.gl/C8dz2U ) for the inspiration.

All clips used for fair use commentary, criticism, and educational purposes. See Hosseinzadeh v. Klein, 1:16 -cv-03081-KBF (SDNY 2017).

Typical legal disclaimer from a lawyer (occupational hazard): This is not legal advice, nor can I give you legal advice. Sorry! Funny! “Good lawyers don’t lie!”
    What’s funny?
Society sees the following regarding cops vs lawyers:
Majority of society sees cops as honest good guys locking up criminals and upholding justice.
Majority of society sees lawyers as liars. And I quote “lawyers sound like liars”
    *YET:*
Reality is cops are liars. Cops are allowed to lie to perps per the Supreme Court. Cops don’t even have a morale clause.
Reality is lawyers don’t and can’t lie to either their client and court. Lawyers prior to getting license to practice law have to go through a _character and fitness_ in order to even get license to practice.
That is what’s funny to me! What reality is vs how society see how lawyers are is ridiculous funny!

This crack me up!!!! I JUST came across this "show" on YouTube....how....I have no clue....but I started watching every clip......niche entertainment!!! The thing I like most in "Suits" is the bantering......and thus....this is what hooked to continue......not if it is or was legally accurate.....who gives a chit......but....someone who has been in court 1000x more than the average Joe......I can tell you from experience.....lawyers.....good OR bad...DO lie.....period. So....for those that think that a lawyer.....NEVER lies....you are sadly mistaken.....
I'll leave you with this nugget:
Question: What is the difference between a lawyer and a snake lying in the road?
Answer: The snake has skid marks in front of it........

Suits shows the audience about how great is in Lawyer world because most of us never care. And one of the main theme that the writer tried to deliver to audience is "what kind of person you want to be". "Crossing the line for a good or bad objective". It actually applies to most of the profession out there.

Like, why were all the students handing in their exams together at the same time? That was messy as hell! That’s a bunch of irregularities waiting to happen.
All exams must be picked up one by one by the proctor while the students remain seated. Then they're counted and put away, and ONLY THEN are the students given permission to leave. That's test taking 101 when it comes to big important exams

Having a good memory would actually be incredibly helpful in almost any career. With law, it would help in knowing what loop holes to look for, any details in helping a client sooner, helps in being recommended in big projects, and how some laws can connect to other laws that would help in winning a case. If everyone knew more about their rights and how the law works we wouldn't need lawyers that know the ins and outs.

OBJECTION: you state hiring a witness to testify against you doesnt make sense if they are later found to have been purjuring themselves. I disagree. it makes perfect sense from a PR standpoint. it could be used to garner sympathy for the firm, EX: "oh wow, that poor guy. I'm glad that lieing lady was caught" it elevates his moral standing from a community standpoint and can then be used to cast doubt on future allegation. EX : a second lady comes forward to testify that he did the same thing to her. well they can argue that he has been accused of it before, and it was found to be she was purjuring herself, can the new complainant PROVE thats NOT happening again?".

If Harvey really saw the potential value in Mike's "mind" because of the photographic memory or whatever, the actual solution was simple: Make him a PARALEGAL. The duties and responsibilities of a paralegal include:
Conduct client interviews and maintain general contact with the client.
    Locate and interview witnesses.
Conduct investigations, statistical and documentary research.

He has no lawyerly value whatsoever when they bring him on, and he wont for some time as he has no courtroom experience, hasn't spent time in a firm on any level, and of course has no credentials. A paralegal in NY does not require any kind of licensure, so this would be the best of all worlds.
