This shows the facility built by the United States government in the 1960's called Camp Century.
Camp Century. Should have been called Camp Ten-Kay, because it will take that long for all of the nuclear waste they left there "sequestered" under the ice, along with all of the other toxic crap they had at camp--to decay to safe levels.
That fire in the fireplace looks highly suspect it was composed into this footage.
I wonder what Mukluk is up to today :)
Id of loved to ben onthis mishion id lept really good in a moving snow cat
Rebel Base Hoth
why? what did we learn?
this is about the most boring documentary ever produced. YAWN!
I they put this much effort on feeding the world there wouldn’t be any wars children of satan
The control rods went active at 6:52AM = 13The 13 bloodlines and the US Military built these tunnels for Nazi Germany. How do you think the USA got nuclear power?
The world had a real super Power then .Iceland has a base to that they abandoned polar bears have it now .
Everyone involved in this project owes not only a full explanation, but a total liquidation of their assets back to the American people. This wasnt science, this was abuse of taxpayer funds.
Great documentary on the people who made this "underground city" possible. Thule? Supply base? Just being handed over the German Nazi secrets...
"Crewmen wearing protective clothing". Poor guys putting the Nuclear Reactor together with only gloves and a hard hat on.

Very annoying the music a waste of time .I would fire the person or persons responsible for this noise.
bet they all died from cancer
It would be interesting to know how many dollars has gone into that project. What was the pay off? Whatever the cost it would probably not even feature in the overall amount of resources which the USA spends on its military.
The accidental fact optimally own because doll alternatively sparkle notwithstanding a abrupt share. understood, painstaking trigonometry
Conclusion, the Americans never cleaned up after them self and sites are radioactive till today
darn, they cut the bit where they find "The Thing" and its UFO buried in the ice...
What to no link to an update or current use video?..... it has been 7 years since upload. Reactor on line at 6:54 am or 06:54 hours but sadly not an exact date on the video.... Two future kids, teens and adults these were the multimedia films we got to watch as privilege in our school day classrooms often from film projector well into the late 1980's.....

Back when Americans knew how to pronounce "nuclear"
Too bad that whole project went down because no engineer took into account as simple as ice and snow moves.
@Ordinary Guy Good luck in your future life of delusions. Also, have fun with your one-size-fits-all answer to every problem as "human factors". Congratulations on believing that everything we know now was known in as much detail in the past.
@DogGambit You can act as much as you want as a Jester but I walk away like a true gentelmen from pointless arguing knowing I won.
@Ordinary Guy - You made the correct choice. Walk away with your tail between your legs. Ha Ha! Just Kidding! ... Or am I? You know I am ... Are you sure?
@DogGambit Ok, we can stop this discussion, it is just leads us to nowhere but it is still human factor that lead projects downfall.
@Ordinary Guy - When did I ever say that snow and ice don't move. When did I ever say that the people back then were not aware of snow and ice movement. I never said that. My point, which you apparently completely missed, was that perhaps even the experts were not aware of the EXTENT to which it moved. They perhaps didn't know by how much it would move in a certain period of time. We now know how much. But did even the experts back in the 1950s know by how much? Scientific knowledge advances with time. We know more now than they did in the 1950s.
gosh, sooo secret its detailed to the last bolt :-))
This would not be possible today with the snowflakes face planted in their phones...

Project Iceworm caused a major diplomatic dispute between the U.S. and Denmark (which has dominion over Greenland) when it became known that the real purpose of Iceworm was to investigate positioning ICBMs under the Greenland icecap. Naturally, they didn't tell you that part of the story here. This is the kind of "knowledge" they sought there. The project was abandoned when it was found that the ice was subject to excessive movement.
@MrShobar well if it isn't Mr Paul Harvey returned from the dead, please tell us "The Rest Of The Story". you kind of left it vague, we all know ice moves but what are the particulars of the "secret base of Greenland". Funny, in 1992 they were able to retrieve a P38 aptly named "Glacier Girl" from under 268 feet of ice and snow that had been there since 1942 and in 2007 get it flying again. kind of an achievement considering it was deeper in the ice than the secret Greenland base was oh and dont just quote Wiki on this, give us your first hand knowledge of the affair
@dank donkerson The Fourth Estate. And you're wrong on just about everything else, too.
this was back when people could keep a secret, not like today where anyone and everyone can blab about a secret project and nothing happens to them and this includes the 3rd estate.........bunch of traitors and to quote General Sherman "I hate newspapermen. They come into camp and pick up their camp rumors and print them as facts. I regard them as spies, which, in truth, they are." "If I had my choice I would kill every reporter in the world, but I am sure we would be getting reports from Hell before breakfast."
I like how their protective clothing is to protect the fuel rods from them, not them from the fuel rods...

I wonder if any of that ice is still there.
I wonder if the nuclear waste is still there?

This was so interesting
this is the most epic snow fort ever
Billions in wasted money to point more nukes at Russia.
25:10 pretty sure I got some of those rations when I was in Nam lol.
it sucks know let joe biden and kamala harris take it from here wasted video information for old shit that has nothing good for the future wasted years
the camp operated from 1959 to 1967. the reactor was later removed. to this day hazardous waste is buried under the ice.
He brought a dog, against the rules, but did it anyway. We used to live. Now we survive.
I came for the heavy equipment, but I stayed for Mukluk~ :3
Ironically the flags poles they used to mark the ice camp were made of tropical bamboo
Good skiing poles
This is an earthly hell. I feel miserable and cold just looking at them suffer. I would have to really hate someone to send them to Greenland.
Don't knock it 'til you try it. I've been twice and am hoping I get to go again.

This is some amazing ingenuity
how much do you think this place cost the American tax payer ? It looked like ALCO manufactured all the metal and machinery . I wonder who owned Alco from 1901-1969 . if you know please Post

What the hell was the point of all this? So now a few pinheads can sit up there and take thermometer readings and look at ice core samples? Your tax dollars at work folks.
What rank is this guy in the USAF? 6 stripes/rockers and 1 Chevron? All the USAF insignias I looked up, only had a max of 5 stripes/rockers? https://youtu.be/-DPQ15EgyTY?t=1436
Something tells me Muckluck isn't there still
Narrated by Cpt. Thomas C. Evans, United States Army.
The secrets of the universe can only be investigated properly in an uninhabited area within ballistic missile range of Moscow.
What were they doing on foreign soil?
I don't know who decided this was a Secret base. I served a year on the ice cap at a place named Camp Tuto. It was a support base for Century. The reactor was removed in 63/64 by the Engineers. The unit I commanded was disestablished in 65/66. I will always remember my year there and how difficult it was to deal with the 24 hour Summer days. The 24 hour no sun days were much easier.
I don't think the base itself was intended to be secret. Project Iceworm (with its plans for nuclear missiles under the ice) was secret. Not even the Danes (officially) knew about it. Camp Century was publicly presented as a scientific endeavor. All that got scrapped when it turned out that ice flows enough to destroy your tunnels, but by that time ICBMs were becoming a thing and Thule's purpose started shifting towards space monitoring and early warning.
i wonder if naval personal are used to run the atomic pile since we already run dozens of them on all of our ships and a training facility in Idaho since the 50's.. i am wondering if camp "Century" is still in operation ?? great video, keep posting more like this and others !!
Should send this video to Elon. He has plans to go to an even colder place.
Builds remote power plant because it's the middle of nowhere. Abandons because it's in the middle of nowhere. Yep sounds like a govt funded project to me.
They didn't abandon the reactor. They did leave the waste behind, though.
QUANTO DINHEIRO FOI GASTO EM UMA COISA INUTIL.....
WOW, I am perplexed by one simple fact.there was only one Black man walking around, and he looked as he had to walk on eggshells not to disturb white folk.when will White man revolutionize and reach critical mass?
Next up: "How we built underground cities on Mars."
Try how we built underground cities with the missing Pentagon Trillions
One of the great endeavours by the USA in the name of world peace which turned out to be a fail in the end. In this case not a country and its population being abandoned and left in turmoil, this one is about walking away from responsibility for a luring environmental disaster in someone else’s territory.
This is why nuclear power is the only way to save the planet.
What is the deal on these meaningless comments of gibberish on most of these videos? I see many on this video. These people must have a personal problem.
I now understand how the rebel base on Hoth was built.
Wait, I'm missing a bolt, let me head over to Lowe's to get one....Nevermind, Lowes is out. Amazon has next day delivery!
wonder why they wasted space putting canned stuff in the freezer
The disgusting star largely dry because fir lilly tremble pro a cowardly icebreaker. mellow, ethereal ketchup
Well this makes it sound like this base was just an innocent research facility but in truth it was a project whose end goal was to install a vast network of nuclear missile launch sites that could survive a first strike by the USSR according to documents declassified in 1996.
Oh look, its the US, once more polluting the planet with nuclear waste to install nuclear missiles just to fail and abandon it in less than 10 years and never clean up their mess.
These men worked so hard! How honorable and courageous!!
OMG I sure do!! 🤣
The dumbest Project ever.
And we have have a homeless epidemic, there is no reason every American citizen shouldnt have a little piece of land and and house free of charge to live in. O but we have to fight another war in the Middle East for no reason...I forgot.
Why did they build this? Why in the snow and where did all the waste go?
Dear old Mukluk. We miss him so.
The real question is where is that nuclear reactor now? Is it still buried in camp century?
LOL. They even emblazoned "PORTABLE NUCLEAR POWER PLANT" on all the crates and containers. It's amazing we made it past 1970.
Muito bom !
It's funny to watch the old army films...in reality it's more of a public relations deal than anything informative.
If I get to choose between working in extreme cold or extreme hot climate I choose extreme hot.
After WWII attitude: "Well I guess the war showed we can raise WAAAAY More money than anyone imagined"."So lets go spend a ton of money on whatev"
Simultaneously, WW2 was a time period when old noble families of Europe, and pioneer robber-barons of industry riding the coattails of centuries of colonialism (that made Hitler's 6 years of colonizing Europe look angelic) lost a lot of money, and these trickled into both the government and the lower classes of people. It took them 80 years to retake the world's wealth back to pre-War percentages, and we are feeling the consequences of this now.
WELL AS SILLY AS HUMANS ARE THE ONLY WAY TO HIDE ANYTHING IS GO UNDERGROUND. IF A GIANT X-RAY CAN BE MANUFACTURED TO PEER THROUGH MILES OF GROUND, NOTHING ON EARTH CAN EVER BE HIDDEN AGAIN!!!
Would have been a good vid with no music
Abandoned after less than ten years of service. One major reason was the proximity of the raw sewage containment leaking into the residential quarters. Now there are radio-active, chemical,( PCB), diesel fuel and human waste contaminants that are being moved by subsurface melt waters. The U.S. or Danish governments have not committed on the necessary clean-up.
They neglected to mention that the camp was built without the approval of Denmark. When the camp was abandoned much of the hazardous material was left there for contamination far in the future. This was just one more military fuckup by people with bad ideas and little vision.
They were the first to build a Hoth like facility.
Only took six years to find me.Smfh
